Is Precious worth all of the hype?

There has been so much talk about the movie Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire. We’ve been hearing about this movie since the beginning of the year. But is it worth all of the hype?

Unlike Michael Jackson’s This Is It, which was hype up to no end but we all knew what we were getting ready to see. Then again, there was all of the hype around X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Terminator Salvation and Paranormal Activity, which no where near lived up to the hype. Actually, they all fell short of expectations. So what about Precious?

There has been so much talk about Mo’Nique nominated for an Oscar and Precious winning a Golden Globe and an Oscar for Best Picture that you have to worry that people will go in with such high expectations that the movie doesn’t live up. Will this happen?

Are you going to see Precious? Did you read the book? I want to hear your thoughts.

   I guess the question is really, what is it that makes a good movie? You say that “expectations are really high”. Well, what are your expectations? In this case is it the drama involved with a girl living in a home with out love or support, physically, by hollywood standards, unattractive (ie. she ain’t got a Halley Barry bod and a bad hair job). Where in the movie the character, lives and expresses the same desires for a boy friend, not just a boy friend, but a LIGHT SKINNED boy friend and other wants and needs as does all the other teenage girls of her age. With two abuseive parents, apparently no friends that seen in the promos, given this scenario, what makes this a “much ANTICIPATED” movie?

   Beats the hell out of me, but if my wife wasn’t grocery shopping today I had planned to be in line when the doors opend. Now, I’ve got to wait till Tuesday for Seniors day to get in cheap.

   Thats my truth.

   I believe that the Precious is worth the hype. I read the book twice and I believe the cast makes it a dynamic movie. I haven’t seen it but am impressed with the Lee Daniels, Sapphire, Gabby, and Monique. I saw the interview on the Mo’nique Show and it was so emotional for the actors. I plan to see the movie and know I will love it. I applaude all of them for the story is a difficult one to portray.

   i thought the movie precious was really good. you left the theatre with a few questions but all together it was written and acted out very well. koodos to new actress and monique
